Well that was… interesting?
Tonight, at 9.33PM, after hearing a very loud boom outside the restaurant, I ran out and saw that a car had driven through a metal fence into a car park and had broken a gas pipe. I called emergency services (which was a novelty in itself) and requested the police and fire department.
From what I gathered from other witnesses, the driver was ‘going at 100 or something’, while trying to do some ‘burnouts and doughnuts’ when it obviously lost control. The speed limit on this road was only 50km/h, and he must have been going REALLY fast in order to drive off the road, past the curb, the foot path and through a metal fence.
There was also a pretty heated argument between the driver and the witness as to the actual speed of the vehicle (the driver insisted he was going at 60km/h whereas the witness claimed he was going at least 100km/h). It looked like it was going to turn to blows until I told one of them to stop smoking in case he triggered some sort of explosion.
All in all, it made a boring night a little bit more interesting.
